I had Henry in my 9th grade history class. At first, Henry and I bumped heads. We both have strong personalities and can be stubborn. Normally forming a relationship with a student is something I don’t struggle with, so I was determined to make Henry like me. One day Henry showed up wearing a “hook grip” shirt and I knew I had my “in” with him. Henry and I slowly began to build a bond over Olympic lifting and CrossFit. I’ll never forget the look on Henry’s face when I asked him about Olympic lifting the first time. Once Jeff started coaching at Verdant, my relationship with Henry really took off and it got to the point I would occasionally bring him to CrossFit from Middleton. The first time I drove Henry to CrossFit, I first took him to Rob and I’s house to grab a change of clothes. Within the first ten minutes at our house, Henry managed to scale at 30 foot tree in our front yard. Henry thought it was hilarious while I was instantly panicked. This was also right after I had learned about the massive scar on his arm and that it was caused from a bad fall from a tree. Despite the panic this caused me, it is one of my favorite memories of Henry. Henry had a thirst for life and truly lived it to the fullest. I have made a promise to myself to start living more like Henry. To do the things that make me happy and to enjoy all of the things that life has to offer. I will forever miss Henry and will treasure all of the time that I got to spend with him.
